When the completed application is received, reviewed and accepted; confirmation and a map to the testing site will be mailed to the applicant.
WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED ON THE WRITTEN TEST:
The written test is a general aptitude test. It consists of problem solving, reading comprehension and math skills. Questions may contain fire service lingo. For example, “hose length” rather that pipe or rope length. The test is approximately 2 hours in length.
WHAT DOES THE PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST INVOLVE:
Enclosed in the application packet is a physician’s statement that has a detailed list of what will be required to pass the physical agility section of the exam.
DO I HAVE TO BE A CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER, PARAMEDIC, EMT OR FIRE INSPECTOR TO TAKE THE TEST?
No.
FINAL STEP:
Once the candidate successfully completes all of the phases, his/her name is placed in the “pool”. There is no top and no bottom. This is not a rating list. All candidates are equal.
Qualified candidates remain in the pool for two years.
When there is an opening at a department the Fire Chief of that Department will call the candidates he/she chooses for an individual interview.
